HAIR
DISCUSSION
The
right routine and the right ingredients promote longer, healthier, shinier
hair and a healthier scalp. Constantly pulling your hair and keeping it
held tightly pulls at the roots and causes hair loss, this does not mean
that you can't wear your hair up a lot, it means that you need to monitor
your hairs stability and make changes as needed.
Shedding
Hair
Humans
shed hair in early autumn and then again in spring. Even though there
is an increase in shedding during spring and fall, the number of hairs
shed is still between 50 and 100 strands a day. If you are a person that
sheds 50 to 60 strands a day then during spring and fall it may increase
to 100 per day. Shedding varies from person to person.
HAIR
TIPS
Healthy
hair
Keep
hair hydrated with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner for daily use.
Have regular treatments- deep conditioning treatments are absolutely necessary
during the summer, but are still a very good idea during the rest of the
year to keep color shiny, vivid and manageable.
Home treatments - use a moisturizing or nourishing hair mask, comb it
through and leave it on the hair for 15minutes (covered with a plastic
bag or cap). Use a blow dryer to heat up the hair for a couple of minute,
this helps the conditioner seep into the hair better. Then rinse with
lukewarm water. Dry and style as usual.
Growing
hair out!
When
you want to grow out your hair- you have a lot of in between periods of
time that your hair just won't work or do what you like. People tend to
want to rush these periods, don't get frustrated and cut it off. Try these
few tips and see what happens.
- Blow-dry
your hair with a diffuser to protect your ends. (It is that little thing
that comes in the box when we buy a new blow dryer. Stop tossing it
away or putting it under the bathroom counter. Stick it on the end of
your blow dryer.) Adding the diffuser will add a few minutes to you
drying time, but it also adds quality to the hair. The diffuser takes
out the static electricity from the air and doesn't dry out the end.
- Shampoo
a little less that you do now. If you are a person that shampoos daily,
try to do every other day. Shampooing the hair cleans it of dirt, grim
and the styling products you used that day, but it also cleans off your
own natural oils. The best natural treatment for your hair is your own
natural oils.
- Brush
the hair at least twice a day - start at the nape of your neck and move
toward the top of your head. This moves the oils through the hair and
allows the ends to utilize the oil in between shampoos. Brushing the
hair also stimulates the scalp and hair follicles, which is a good thing
if you are trying to grow the hair out.
- Instead
of curling the hair every day, try to use mousses and pomades to give
texture and hold to the hair. You can have a very nice style without
the added heat of the curling iron.
- Do
not use the blow-dryer on hair with your head turned upside down, during
the grow out period because it dries out the ends of your hair and increases
the need for trims. If possible, let hair try naturally part of the
way then blow dry for volume and body. (During the summer - sexy, wild,
feminine looking hair is the look. Drying your hair naturally gives
a soft natural lay to the hair that looks great, then you can spice
it up with a pomade or light hairspray.
- Humidity
is usually troublesome for people any time that it happens. Use heating
tools to calm frizz; use a metal brush with a blow-dryer, straightening
iron or curling iron. If you use these tools, you also need to use a
straightening product or we sometimes call them a smoothing agent. (check
out our product page for examples.) To add moisture to the hair, you
can use Botanical Oils. Aloe and Chamomile and vitamins like B12, C
and E add moisture. Products with Vitamin B5 and amino acids soften
the hair and help bring out natural shine.
- Long
hair. Are fly-aways a Problem? Use sheer or light glosser sprays or
serums, they give moisture to the hair to control fly- aways - if you
want this effect to last a long time (all Day) apply to wet hair.
- Daily
tip for all hair types. Shampoo the hair as soon as possible after exposure
to chlorine or salt, these chemicals dry out the hair and can discolor
the hair.
-
During the summer use less blow drying and heating tools, this helps
you not stress the hair unnecessarily. Use hats and scarves to protect
the hair from the sun, even if you use shampoo with sunscreen.
- Don't
over brush wet hair, it pulls the hair and can create breakage. If you
need to comb the hair use a wide-tooth comb and start at the bottom
of the hair and work your way up. If you work the tangles out of the
hair from the bottom to the top, then you break off less of your hair
and have less fly always. You also will not need as many trims or haircuts..
-
If you are a color client and want to increase longevity of your color
then use sunscreen shampoos and conditioners and protect the hair from
the sun.
- A
good balanced diet that has water, fruits and vegetables will maintain
good, healthy lustrous hair.
- Hair
grows faster in the summer, so this is a peak time to be gin growing
your hair out. Use good products and have a set maintenance schedule.
FACE
SHAPES
Round
A
person with a round face is circular, they have a full round look. You
need to accent your eyes or nose.
Goal - you need to create an oval appearance and lift the face.
A)
promote height at the crown
B) The sides of the hair should be close to the face
C) There should be hair showing at the chin
A layered look (a shag) is the perfect shape for a round face. It appears
modern and classy. When you already have short hair, or your prefer a
short cut, then you should use sideburns, or wisps around the face. A
fringe can incorporate your hairs natural growth and type - if it is straight,
curly, wavy, coarse or fine you need to work with it, so that your style
is simpler to manage.
Square
Square
shaped faces have a broad strong, jaw line and forehead, with very little
distance between the temples and chin that other shapes.
Goal - Keep hair soft and around the face to soften the edges of your
face.
A) Long hair - to or past the shoulders
B) Short hair - should be round and have height at crown
C) Do not cut hair to the jaw line, this accentuates the broad jaw. Always
above or below. Use layers and not single length styles or center parts.(
this widens the square face)
D) Always use wisps to soften around face.
As
with all other face shapes your hair type will be a part of the style.
Face shape is only one factor in choosing a good style, color or cut.
Heart
Your
face is widest at the forehead, it tapers down to a small, pointy chin.
This face shape needs a softer, curlier style. You should try to create
width around your narrow chin. A chin length cut is great. It should be
full, curly/wavy bouncy. Always accentuate the positive. Usually I tell
clients with this face shape to wear their hair short and curly or chin
length with long bangs that can be pulled across forehead to either side
to make it appear longer, this draws the attention to the eyes, if your
hair is at the chin length or a little longer then is makes the chin appear
wider, which is good.
Consider your hair type. Is the texture, fine, medium or coarse? Is it
curly or straight or it is thin or thick?
With the heart shaped face, you should have a soft full style, if you
have small features. If you want your heart shape to appear small, wider
and more round then you should have a close, straight, flat style. A style
can be worn better and the hair itself stays in better shape if you use
your hairs natural characteristics (curly, straight, fine, coarse) with
your style.
Oval
Of
all the face shapes, the oval shape is considered to be the idea face
shapes. The jaw and forehead are about the same width apart and your chin
comes to a soft point. This face shape can wear any hairstyle. Just about
any style will fit, a layered hair- style, full, long or short. You should
always consider your facial features and try to draw attention to your
best. You also want to always consider your hair type- weather it is fine,
medium or coarse texture, curly or straight, thin or thick. All if these
things should be thought of and used to create a style that works, and
that you look fabulous.
